At the audition, you will asked to ‘slate’ which typically requires standing on the “mark”. What exactly does this mean?
To ‘slate’ is to verbally address the camera and introduce oneself on tape to those conducting the audition before one begins their audition. When slating, it is important to be honest, energetic, confident and stylistic. A typical slate consists of:
HELLO, MY NAME IS……………MY AGENCY (OR AGENT) IS………………
(It will not always be required to state your agency. You will be informed at the audition if necessary)
The ‘mark’ is normally placed in the position where they will stand for an audition. It is normally an “X” or T” or just a strip of tape indicating where to stand. This is so the person auditioning can be heard on the microphone and positioned right for the camera. Once the person is standing on the ‘mark’, their focus must be on the camera and not to look down at the mark.
