Accents & Dialects In TV Commercials

ACCENTS & DIALECTS IN TV COMMERCIALS Sometimes, accents and dialects are used in TV commercials. Do you know the difference between the two? An “accent’ is foreign and a ‘dialect’ is regional. In other words, if you were raised in the southern part of the US, you have a southern dialect. If you came to the US from Italy, you would have an accent.

Should you use an accent or dialect when auditioning for a commercial? If the script doesn’t call for it, the answer is no. If the director wants an accent or dialect, he/she will let you know either in the script or inform you at the audition.
